Top Fashion Advice For This Year

The 1960s will always be remembered as an era of change. If one word defines the era, it is “liberation.” Many of the major social movements that have shaped our world today began in the sixties. If you want fearless fashion advice, look to the sixties!

From the Civil Rights Movement to Women’s liberation, the 60s paved the way. This era of liberation even spread to the fashion industry. No other lasting item of apparel proves this point more than the mini skirt.

Different people spell it differently, but the mini-skirt, miniskirt or mini skirt remains the same: it is short and sexy and only for the young and the bold. A French fashion label was the first to lift the hemline above the knees in 1964.

For some reason, though, it took a 1966 version of the skirt to make it catch on. It was the even higher hemlined Chelsea style skirt that grabbed the world’s attention.

After that, the miniskirt ruled the fashion world. Some thanks has to be given to the inventors of the pantyhose, because without that, there may never have been a mini. At any rate, it took off like a rocket and it wasn’t long before every woman young enough to get away with it was wearing a mini skirt in the clubs and on the streets of every major city.

Since their heyday in the 60s, miniskirts have gone in and out of fashion, but they have never completely disappeared. Today, they are made from just about any fabric. While the denim skirt is probably the one seen the most on the streets, minis are made from everything from leather to lycra and styles, while always bold, are also absolutely outrageous, too.

So what is the best fashion advice for the fearless fashionista? Don’t take anyone’s advice. The message of the sixties was: “do your own thing.” Take it to heart, ladies and show the world what you’ve got!
